Making My Life Easier

March 26, 2012

It’s Monday. Back to reality for me. It’s a bit harder this Monday than on other Mondays because hubby and I had a weekend all to ourselves(for the first time in years!). My mom graciously took our 3 monsters Β angels for the weekend and kept them busy. Hubby and I went away by ourselves and enjoyed some uninterrupted adult time. More on that trip later.

Now, it’s time for a list. I had so much fun joining Stasha at The Good LifeΒ last week that I decided to make another list.

10 Things/people/services that make life easier

1. I have to start with my hubby for being the technical genius he is and always solving any issues that crop up with all things computer related. I’m so lucky!

2. My Android phone, for always keeping me in the loop.

3. My Samsung Galaxy tablet, for keeping me in the loop, letting me carry a lighter load and that awesome Kindle app!!!

4. Skype, for letting me see my sister at least once a week and being able to watch my niece grow-up and see her take her first steps. It makes it easier to bear having her live all the way in Germany.

5. Walgreens online photo ordering. I always have an idea for Christmas presents for the grandparents ( they love the calenders with photos of the kids) and for being able to order prints online and pick them up an hour later. (For those last minute school projects!!!)

6. The dry cleaner because some days I give in and pay extra to have hubby’s dress shirts all nice and starched and wrinkle-free. As some of you know, ironing is my most dreaded and hated chore.

7. In the same vein as number 6. Here’s to wrinkle-free shirts… wash, dry and wear… that’s my kind of shirt!!!

8. Our lawn guys… I don’t have a green thumb and hubby is white collar all the way when it comes to outside chores. Without our lawn guys the grass would be waist high and the hedges at about 10 feet, neither of which our home owners association would appreciate.

9. My Libman Freedom Spray Mop. I am a bit anal when it comes to my floors. This mop is great because it comes with washable microfiber pads and a refill bottle for your own cleaning solution. You don’t need to constantly replace batteries or buy the throw-away pads. I like that, it’s better for the environment and cheaper on my wallet. Plus, it does a great job cleaning the floors.

10. This last one is a service that I wish was still available~ the Publix grocery delivery service~ it was so great to have. You ordered your groceries online, paid a small delivery fee and a few hours later food was at your door. It came in handy when the kids were really little and it took forever just to get ready for a quick grocery run. I’m sure many of us moms, especially the ones with newborns, would love to be able to have groceries delivered.

I hate ironing, so yippee to iron free clothes! Skype is really awesome. We use it to talk to my brother in law in Taiwan and it’s like he’s just in the other room.

Yes, Skype is great that way. And best of all it’s free. It’s the best when you have relatives or friends live half-way around the world.

I use that same mop, and I like it because of the washable pads too! I had an android phone and I loved it, but now I have an iPhone and I love that too. πŸ™‚

So happy you can see your niece on Skype!

We have been thinking about possibly replacing my Android when I get the free upgrade and trying an I-phone. But we are not Apple people. Decisions, decisions. Meanwhile, I’ll stick to my mop!!!! Skype has been amazing without it my grandma in Germany would have never met my youngest!!!

  • Janice March 26, 2012 at 4:53 pm

I’m glad to have my android phone too! And grocery deliveries were awesome when my 3rd child was a newborn! I just did not want to take him out that long – with 2 other kids to keep track of. Great list!

Thanks. Yes, we had the delivery service when my middle daughter was very young and I adored it. But it just didn’t stick.

  • Yoli March 26, 2012 at 6:17 pm

Isn’t it great to have a husband that can fix technology! Who needs a “geek squad” when you have a “geek husband”???

Yes, he is my own personal “geek squad” but he actually prefers to be called a nerd, not a geek. There is a difference as he tells me!!! πŸ™‚

  • Missy | The Literal Mom March 26, 2012 at 6:23 pm

I knew we were kindreds! I can’t live without our lawn people either. AND I hate to iron. We will only buy wrinkle free shirts for my husband. AND Publix! We love Publix – in our home away from home – Siesta Key, Fla!

    • Susi March 26, 2012 at 10:37 pm

Siesta Key, that’s only about an hour or so away from where my mom lives ( and I used to)!!! And yes, Publix is pretty awesome. πŸ™‚

  • Stasha March 26, 2012 at 8:59 pm

I never heard of that mop. Thank you for sharing, I have been looking for something to control the mess my dog makes! Looks great and environment friendly!! Isn’t Skype the best?! We had grocery delivery in England, loved it!

The mop really is fantastic. I so love it. And yes, I would be lost without Skype!!!

  • Jamie March 26, 2012 at 10:09 pm

Aren’t lawn services wonderful? We let ours go to save $$. Our yard just isn’t the same. And I really enjoy working outside. I’d much rather beautify the yard than the inside of the house — but never enough hours in a day.

I have a lot of ideas but just never have the time or energy to do something about it. And with my “black” thumb it probably isn’t a good idea anyways!!! πŸ™‚

  • Susan March 26, 2012 at 10:27 pm

I do love the grocery delivery service – we have a service in NC from Harris Teeter that takes some pain away from the shopping, but you do have to go pick it up (picture drive by grocery shopping!). Great list!

That’s pretty nice, too… at least you only have to worry about picking up what you ordered. I would love to have that available!!! Anything, to make life a little easier.

  • Jennifer March 26, 2012 at 10:50 pm

My sister bought my niece and nephew each an iPod Touch (not her kids, my other sister’s kids). When my mom got an iPad and I discovered Face Time (like Skype) on that one evening when my niece and nephew “called” my mom, I decided that I needed to have an iSomething so I could chat with them too. Currently they are in California and I miss them so much. So I got an iPod Touch of my own and I chat with them fairly frequently. It’s so fun and I love seeing them in real time.

My middle daughter can use her Android and talk to her friend who has an Ipod and use facetime. She told me how but I forgot. Great little machines. πŸ™‚

  • RoryBore March 26, 2012 at 11:54 pm

I love my steam mop. it cleans my floors quick and easy, and no nasty chemicals for the crawling kids to touch. (my middle child had bad reactions to our previous Swifter.)
And I definitely would pay extra to have groceries delivered some weeks!

Beth Ann has a steam mop too. Which one do you use? I’d really like to know if you like it. Been thinking about one of those for a while.

  • ava March 27, 2012 at 12:45 am

Yay to android phones! And your number 10 sound so heavenly! πŸ™‚ I hope somebody from the local grocery would think of this and make this happen here too.

I am glad you and sweetheart got to go on a trip, alone…YEAH for your mom…

my mom is the only person in the world who I think likes to iron… It drives her crazy that I never do… And if I tell her that I rewash something if it is too wrinkled…UGH… you don’t even what to know what she says…

He he he. I have been known to rewash something. But my washer has this handy steam cycle. Works like a charm. Your mom can stop by anyyime to do some ironing here. πŸ™‚

  • TBM March 27, 2012 at 7:11 am

I really need to skype…everyone back home is starting to get irritated. Glad you had a wonderful weekend away from the angels…or are they back to monster status now that you are back? Just kidding of course.

    • Susi March 27, 2012 at 9:28 pm

Lol. Yeah, the monsters are back in town. πŸ™‚ And Skype is really great for keeping in touch with people far away. . . Or lazy kids that don’t want to come downstairs!

  • Beth Ann March 27, 2012 at 8:22 am

I can identify with a lot on your list—–lawn service, iPhone instead of Android, Kindle app on any device rocks, Skype for sure, and I have a steam mop/vac combo that dries the floors too so my life has changed since I got that and I have cleaner kitchen and bathroom floors!!! Awesome! Great list–thanks for sharing. I may have to steal this idea!!!

Beth Ann, which steam mop do you have. I have been wondering about them but can’t make up my mind. I’ve heard some of them are useless and break easy. Having one that dries too sounds great.

  • Katie E March 27, 2012 at 12:37 pm

I work for a grocery store, and we have online shopping with pickup, but delivery is really expensive. I keep telling them that I think we’d get so much more business if we could deliver – for minimal fees. I know I’d be on board!

I love my Android phone, too!

Even having the option to order online and pick it up is great. But I do think a lot of us would love do be able to have it delivered once in a while. And Androids are pretty spiffy. πŸ™‚

  • paul March 27, 2012 at 8:27 pm

I hate ironing too, only under extreme duress, Here’s to dry cleaning. Glad you got some quality adult time with your “nerd”. What is the difference?

Paul, apparently there is quite a difference. I actually had to read an article on it. I will be happy to send you a link so you may learn the nuances between nerd and geek!!! It’s pretty funny but describes my other half down to a T. πŸ™‚
