My Boy…

August 14, 2012

“Son, you outgrew my lap, but never my heart.” ~Unknown

It’s been a week of many new things,

more grown-up things.

The first locker at school,

learning how to open that lock.

A pierced ear,

because that seemed to be the thing to do.

Meetings for joining the golf team.

Trying on golf shoes,

in your mom’s shoe size.

A doctor’s check-up,

the news that you’ve grown three inches.

How did my baby, my first-born, my only son

grow into such a big boy?

Where does the time go?

Not a mischievous toddler anymore,

but a brainy middle schooler.

(Who got into some honors classes! Yes, this mommy is very proud. 🙂 )

No matter your size,

I’ll love you,

always!!!

Wow so big! The grow so fast. *sigh*

    • Susi August 14, 2012 at 10:42 pm

Yes, they do. Way too fast.

It hit me like a brick last week, how much my only Grandson has grown, it seems like yesterday that I was singing ” all of my love” to Conner and he liked it ( at least that’s what I tell myself). I wish him a perfect first year at Middle School. I’m the proudest Omi in whole wide world.

    • Susi August 14, 2012 at 10:44 pm

It does hit you all of a sudden. Our baby boy isn’t a baby anymore. And I’m sure he loved you singing to him!!!

  • Greta @gfunkified August 14, 2012 at 10:42 pm

Oh my goodness. So many changes so fast! I’ll be a puddle on the floor when that happens to my oldest, I just know it. Your boy looks like an awesome big brother, and so sweet. Yay for honors and golf and lockers and pierced ears! Oh, and freckles!

    • Susi August 14, 2012 at 10:45 pm

Definitely yay for freckles. I love them… and yes, the changes just keep coming.

  • Galit Breen August 14, 2012 at 10:50 pm

Oh they really do always look small in our eyes, don’t they? I always see their baby faces somewhere in there!

    {Love this, you!}

    • Susi August 14, 2012 at 11:27 pm

I do see the baby face in him still, especially the smiling picture of him. He was always so mischievous and the smile said it all.

  • Rorybore August 14, 2012 at 10:55 pm

    3 inches? wow!
if my son grows 3 more inches, I think he’d be as tall as me. he’s almost 8 — the teen years will be rough if I have to look up at him! LOL
adore this quote, so sweet. Hope he has a fantastic year.

    • Susi August 14, 2012 at 11:26 pm

I swear by next summer he’ll be as tall as me. I can’t believe how he shot up this year. And thanks, I hope so too.

  • Farrah August 14, 2012 at 11:03 pm

Oh my gosh how grown up.. and I have to say, he DOES look like the best big brother. What a lucky mama you are!

    • Susi August 14, 2012 at 11:25 pm

Yes, yes I am. I’m a very lucky mama.

  • Kerstin August 14, 2012 at 11:38 pm

    Awwww, love it!
My daughter is starting High School in three weeks – so I know how you feel 🙂
He looks so grown up – I’m sure he’s gonna love middle school!

    • Susi August 15, 2012 at 9:50 am

Highschool? I know it’ll be here before I know it. Everyone says these middle school years go by so fast.

  • TBM August 15, 2012 at 3:55 am

Where does the time go? I wish him luck with school and golf.

    • Susi August 15, 2012 at 9:49 am

I wish I knew. And thanks.

  • Alison August 15, 2012 at 3:59 am

This is my near future, yes? Sigh, why do they grow so quickly?

    • Susi August 15, 2012 at 9:49 am

Yes, it will be your future… and unfortunately it goes by a lot quicker than you think. 🙁

  • Hilary August 15, 2012 at 5:52 am

three inches – wow… he is one handsome man!

He used to look totally like sweetheart, but I think he is starting to look a little more like you!

    • Susi August 15, 2012 at 9:48 am

I think, it depends on what face he makes. It comes and goes, one day he looks like sweetheart and the next like me.

    • Sweetheart August 15, 2012 at 1:31 pm

God help him if he ends up looking like me!

      • Susi August 15, 2012 at 4:08 pm

You are not that bad!!! 😉

  • Rebecca August 15, 2012 at 9:46 am

Thanks, Rebecca. He’s pretty sweet himself.

  • Jamie@SouthMainMuse August 15, 2012 at 10:22 am

It’s a killer when you have to buy men’s sized athletic shoes with the man-sized price isn’t it? And my daughter started middle school with her locker too.

    • Susi August 15, 2012 at 11:27 am

Yes, it is. I’m very thankful for Amazon!!! 🙂

  • AnnMarie August 15, 2012 at 12:05 pm

I feel you on this one. My oldest son is going to high school this year. How did that happen??? You have a handsome boy there, my friend. Good luck to him!

    • Susi August 15, 2012 at 4:18 pm

Thanks you. I truly hope he’ll have a wonderful year.

  • Katie E August 15, 2012 at 1:52 pm

Love your words and pictures! This also sums up how I’m feeling about my oldest right now – except that she’s a girl 🙂 And we don’t have lockers in middle school.

    • Susi August 15, 2012 at 4:07 pm

Thanks. My kids are actually at a private school. I’m not sure if they have lockers at the public middle schools around here.

  • Julie August 15, 2012 at 2:21 pm

Middle school is my favorite age to teach. I hope his teachers are as excited about that age as I was!

    • Susi August 15, 2012 at 4:05 pm

We’ve met a few of the teachers and they all seem pretty nice. We’ll see how it goes! 🙂

  • Mama and the City August 15, 2012 at 3:17 pm

    Awww that is so sweet.
ps. I hate captcha — did not realize that was stopping my comments until the 3rd time grrrrr

    • Susi August 15, 2012 at 4:05 pm

I’m sorry to hear about the captcha… I’m pretty sure it’s set to it’s lowest level. Not sure I want to get rid of it completely.

I love that quote. It’s so true. Wow. I can’t imagine when my oldest will be entering Middle School and getting his own locker! That seems like such a long way off but I know that it will be here before I know it. Beautiful pictures and post.

    • Susi August 16, 2012 at 11:25 pm

It kinda caught me by surprise that we are at this stage already. He’s growing in leaps and bounds.

  • Kerry August 16, 2012 at 6:47 am

This was a sweet post Susi and you made me think of when my little boys will be older…it happens way too fast! You must be so proud of him 🙂

    • Susi August 16, 2012 at 11:24 pm

I am Kerry. He’ll always be my baby but don’t tell him that! 😉

  • Runnermom-jen August 16, 2012 at 8:07 pm

Love that quote…how true it is!! And what very big kid things this week. Bittersweet and SO worth capturing. 🙂

    • Susi August 16, 2012 at 11:19 pm

It is bittersweet. And I’m glad I got some of these moments captured. Thank goodness for Instagram and my phone camera. 🙂
