A big surprise and some fill ins…

November 30, 2012

The cat’s out of the bag.

The surprise complete.

And as I write this, hubby and Middle are on an airplane headed to the Big Apple.

Middle loves hearing hubby tell stories of his hometown, of growing up in New York and of our trip there when she was only about 2 and too young to remember anything.

When she came home with her first quarter report card of all A’s and B’s and a glowing report at the parent teacher conference hubby decided to surprise her with a weekend getaway to NY.

He always takes the kids out by themselves for a little daddy time throughout the year. The boy seemed to have gotten most of that this year. They had a few father-son weekends doing fun stuff together.

Of course, all this was planned before Hurricane Sandy happened and for a while we weren’t sure if he should take her. After talking it over, he decided to go for it.

We told her yesterday. She was shaking with excitement.

I’m excited just thinking about it. About all the things she’ll get to experience…

The Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center, skating at Wollman Rink in Central Park (if she can handle the cold), the top of the Empire State building, the Museum of Natural History… and the list goes on.

They’ll be cramming a lot into the time they are there.

One of the things I’m happy about is that I get to send my ray of sunshine to our friend Hilary.

Yes, Hilary of Feeling Beachie

I told Middle that her mission is to give Hilary the greatest, biggest hug she could from me.

I know, I’ll be getting a report back! 🙂

Hilary, I know you’ll be reading this. I just want to say “Thank You!” for opening your home to hubby and Middle. I know, it’s not the best time right now. Just know, that this is something Middle will never forget… and I will always be one very grateful mommy!

Each week, Hilary plans on listing four statements with a blank for us to fill in on our own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her at feelingbeachie@gmail.com. If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop! This week’s co-host is Jessica from Black White and a little bit of pink – she came up with the last two statements!

Hilary would LOVE it if you could please help her spread the word about this hop…. So, please tweet, FaceBook share, and add the linky to your post…

This week’s statements:
1. I have always dreamed of ____
2. My ___ is my ____
3. I love to ____ when I ____
4. I will never forget ____ with ____

My answers:

1. I have always dreamed of having a house custom built, preferably on a lake. (Not so sure I want to be on the water anymore though.)

2. My OCD tendency when it comes to prepping for a party or company is my biggest downfall because I stress myself and the rest of the family out for no reason.

3. I love to sip a cup of Rooibus tea with honey when I settle down at night.

4. I will never forget seeing hubby with our firstborn. It just did something to my heart the first time I saw him hold our boy. The child that made us parents.

How wonderful for Middle!! That is the sweetest thing ever. What an awesome daddy.
my kids love to go through my photo album from a NYC visit when I was younger. The size of the building just amazes them. And then I have shots of the World Trade Centres from the street, looking back from the ferry, the skyline, even from inside the buildings. It’s bittersweet to see them.
Oh….tell her she has to try a giant pretzel!!! LOL
Also, hugs to Hilary from everyone!! 🙂
I’ve been having green tea with honey at night. hoping to avoid this cold that has knocked out the men in the house.

Leslie, I can’t wait to hear all about her adventures. I remember driving by ground zero when we were up there last time and how eerie it felt. I’ll have to ask if she had a pretzel. I did… 🙂

What a wonderful trip for your daughter and how gracious of Hilary to have them as guests. I would love to get to New york someday with my middle daughter as well.

Hilary and her husbands are “old”family friends and they are always so good about opening their home to guests. This time it was more than gracious, that’s for sure. 🙂

How cool that your middle one gets to spend this special time with Daddy! Motherhood (and fatherhood) is so wonderful, you can’t forget the first time you look at that precious baby’s face and realize you get to love this child.

    Have a great weekend.
