The Story of my Life {blog every day in May}

May 1, 2013

I’m attempting this challenge on the invitation of my friend Janice. I’ve never joined a blog-every-day-of-the-month-challenge and I am not sure I will be able to do it justice. But I am going to give it my best shot. There is a prompt for every day and that should help. Please, click on the button for more information and “rules”!
So, here goes, the first prompt:
Day 1 – The story of your life in 250 words or less
I was born in what was then East-Germany in a town called Querfurt which was more or less the county seat at the time. I lived mostly in Schraplau, a little town of about 1,100 inhabitants and also in Obhausen, a village of about the same size. I had an idyllic childhood and have many fond memories from that time. After the wall fell, when I was 11, things began to change and within a few years my parents made a decision that changed my family’s live. At the age of 16, at the end of December 1995, we boarded a plane very early in the morning in Frankfurt and arrived in the afternoon local time, in Boston. From there we flew to Tampa and drove two more hours South to start our new live in Ft. Myers, Florida. After finishing high school and receiving my A.A. Degree from Edison State College, I transferred to Florida Atlantic University here in Boca Raton. Soon after, I met my husband at work and the rest they say is history… I will be married 12 years on May 4th and am the proud mom of 3 wonderful kids -12, 9, and 4.    I dare say, I am a Florida girl through and through and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else!

      Beth Ann, I’ll need all the luck I can get with this — I’m really going to try to see it through!

    Looking forward to reading more, Susi! I bet you could make this into a book 🙂

      You know, a lot of people keep saying that. If I hear it often enough I might start believing it! I wouldn’t know where to start… 🙂

        Tough one – I’ve heard it before a few times, too, but…

    Wow. That is some backstory you got there. Have you been back to Germany since? I’m so glad you’re happy where you are though! 😀

      Janice, yes, we have been back many times but not in the past 7 years. It’s become very expensive to travel to Europe with three children. 🙁

    I could not have imagined picking up and moving to a whole new continent.
    Did you know English before you made it to the US?

    • Susi May 6, 2013 at 10:41 pm

      Kimberly, I took English for 4 years before coming here – it was Oxford English and while I knew a lot about vocabulary and grammar, I couldn’t really hold a conversation or write lie this!
