How did this happen?
One day, he was my little boy, who kicked around a soccer ball at peewee soccer, then was more interested in his video games and working on robots (which he still is) and now, he’s on the middle school football team at his school.
I mean, technically, I know how it happened – one of the football coaches, also the father of one of his friends, went with them on their recent field trip and basically recruited him.
I look at him and still see my little boy, even if he is almost as tall as I am and wears the same size shoes as me – he’s 12 years old and in sixth grade!
I was always hoping, he would be more interested in soccer than in football, giving where I grew up. But maybe, my tendency to turn into a crazed person when the World Cup comes around every four years, turned him off. 🙂
But here he is, on the football team. American football. A sport I don’t know anything about. A sport I don’t understand. How can it be fun, when all you see is players throwing themselves into a big pile on the field.
Soccer has a flow, a back and forth. A fluidity.
Football seems so, well, just weird to me. Stop and go. No fluidity.
But I guess, I better start perusing the interwebs and learn at least some basics. So that I can sit in the bleachers and properly support my son and his team when the time comes in the fall!
Wish me luck!
Also, I’d love it if you would leave me some pointers in the comments. Where is a good place to start to turn this novice football mom into a pro football mom?
P. S. Maybe I’ll need to watch “The Replacements” some more! 🙂
