A Glimpse of our Home {Nurture Photography – Pink/Home}

May 10, 2013

Where did this week go? I can’t believe it’s Friday and with that time for the next prompt of the Spring Nurture Photography Challenge. I have the pictures for last week’s prompt uploaded but just didn’t get around to posting them. Stay tuned for the next Wordless Wednesday – I think, I’ll use them then.

So, here we are…

I love this weeks prompt – pink/home – because it made me pick up my camera and go on a scavenger hunt around our home in search of all things PINK. Not too hard to do with two little girls around and one who adores all things princess and pink.

I invite you to take a look at some areas in our home. And yes, I straightened up a bit before taking the photos. I just can’t help myself.

The entrance way is one of my favorite parts of the house. In the afternoons the sun streams in through the little front window and brightens everything up. And I love our matching side table and bench that we found years ago at Goodwill. I’m still looking for ideas of what to add to the wall above/beside the two bookcases. Any suggestions?

The Beatles print is opposite the table and mirror and look how much pink there is! 🙂

When you come in through the front door, the first thing you may see is this shadow box frame my mom gave to me a few years ago. I love that picture of all five of us. These are the people that make this house a home and the most important people in my life.

There are little touches of pink everywhere… the diva’s sunglasses,

and one of her bracelets on my key ring.

This is my little corner, my “office” if you will. I sit here as I type this with a hot cup of tea by my side and a slightly warm banana muffin for dessert. We only use the dining room a few times a year, primarily for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. We eat most of our family dinners in the kitchen and sometimes, as a treat in front of the TV.

Even I can’t escape the color pink. These are my ear buds and they are usually plugged into the laptop. I have to admit that I have a thing for the color pink lately and like things that have pink accents. Maybe my girlie side is coming out more. 🙂

Today, hubby set up an old computer for the kids to use since their laptops died and little one kept using mine. I like that it’s in the one room where all of us spend the most time… and we can also keep an eye on their online activities. This is my view from where I’m sitting, or at least it was when I snapped the picture. Right now, I see a little blonde angel in that same spot.

A view from above – dining room/living room combo – my other favorite part of the house. Here we spend time as a family. It’s still a work in progress. I would like to get a different TV stand (if I can convince the hubby) and also some curtains/panels for the windows. I haven’t decided what I want yet as I love all the light that comes in. I’m thinking something sheer and gauzy… we’ll see.

And last, but not least, the pinkest room in the house. Our littlest princess’ room. It can’t get anymore pink than that. The walls, the bedspread, the decorations… all pink and all princess.

I hope, you enjoyed this little glimpse into our home and if you’d like I may share more in the future.

Linking up with Kristi, Alicia and Rebecca!

I loved seeing your home!! I love your red walls (or whatever shade they are!) and all your sweet touches! I would be hard pressed to find much pink in my house—really I don’t think I have anything other than a book cover or maybe a few teapots with pink on them. I am more of a red and blue and brown girl when it comes to home decor I guess!!! Thanks for the tour!!!! Oh and maybe some vinyl words over those bookcases??? There are so many great options out there !!!

    • Susi May 10, 2013 at 11:02 pm

Beth Ann, the walls are a burgundy shade, I forget the exact name right now. I’ve been thinking about some type of lettering and will keep looking for something perfect!

I enjoyed it a lot! It looks very cozy! I love the Beatles print!

    • Susi May 11, 2013 at 9:57 pm

Katrin, we have a few more Beatles prints/posters. They’re popular around here. 🙂

  • Kerry May 11, 2013 at 7:16 am

Yes do more! I love it!! Thanks for sharing parts of your beautiful home with us Susi, I enjoyed the tour 🙂
It is so great to see where and how people live, it makes me feel like I know you a little better because I can picture you there 🙂
Maybe you could get canvases printed, one of each child and hang them on the wall above the bookshelves?
I love your world globe too btw, I am looking for one to add to our home 🙂
Your rooms are cosy and very welcoming! Have a happy weekend xo

    • Susi May 11, 2013 at 9:55 pm

Thanks, Kerry. We’ve had the globe forever – it’s practically an antique. The nice thing is that it lights up and leaves a nice glow at night. I like the canvas idea. Have to look into that. 🙂

      Hi Kerry,

That world globe was actually my Grandfather’s. We got it some time after he passed away in 2000 and judging by some of the countries that no longer exist on it, I think he purchased it in the late 60’s, maybe early 70’s 😉

I LOVE seeing your home!!! You have a beautiful house and I love the pink accents. I think gauzy window treatments would be perfect.

    • Susi May 12, 2013 at 10:01 pm

Thanks. I figure if I keep the window treatments gauzy the light will still come in!

I love that your home has traces of each and every one of you in it. I get uncomfortable in the ones that are spick and span and looked like no one has lived in it.

    • Susi May 13, 2013 at 8:31 am

Kimberly, I know exactly what you mean – I’m the same way. I like the lived-in homes a lot more than the ones that look like a museum!

  • Mitzi May 13, 2013 at 8:26 pm

What a lovely home and such a splendid post for this week’s Nurture Photography challenge. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

    • Susi May 13, 2013 at 9:34 pm

Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Mitzi. Glad you enjoyed the “tour”. 🙂

Way back in the day, I had a pink bedroom. Where does the time go?

    • Susi May 14, 2013 at 8:41 am

Ha ha. You know, I never ever had a pink room and I was very resistant at first but what can I say – my girl loves her pink! 🙂

  • Andreea B May 15, 2013 at 12:01 pm

    Looove your colorful details 🙂

    • Susi May 15, 2013 at 4:41 pm

      Thank you.

  • Rebecca May 17, 2013 at 9:53 am

You have a beautiful home, and I love the pink that you found around there! Just me and boys in this house so there’s not so much pink!

Thanks so much for taking part in the Nurture Photography Challenge 🙂

    • Susi May 17, 2013 at 9:58 am

Thanks, Rebecca. It was a fun prompt and one I was obviously able to find lots of inspiration for! 🙂
