Random thoughts, fill ins and the essence of now

May 23, 2013

Random Thoughts:

– Lately, Little One comes running up to  me out of the blue to give me hugs – big hugs- and she always says the same thing: “Mommy, I just can’t stop hugging you!” My heart melts every. single. time.

She’s also been helping with little chores a lot more, all on her own. She’ll help her brother clear the table after dinner and carry the little things over to the counter or put the salad dressings in the fridge. Today, she cleaned up the living room coffee table all without any prompting – just because. I hope it lasts. 🙂

Now, if she would stop giving her sister a hard time during bath time, especially the hair washing part, I would be even happier. But I’ll take what I can get.

– The weather has been a little crazy lately, with lots of rain, and not just our typical afternoon showers but big thunderstorms with lots and lots of heavy rain that causes flooding. My backyard still has a small “pond” that the birds use to take baths in. But of course, I realize things could be a lot worse.

– I’ve been reading some interesting articles this week. Very thought evoking articles about all kinds of things – motherhoodhappinessblogging and life. (The one about life is actually a video and so worth the twenty minutes of your time.)

– And here is a super cute video that my friend Beth Ann shared on Facebook. If it doesn’t make you go awwww, I don’t know what will!

************************************************************************************************************************************************Each week, Hilary of FeelingBeachie plans on listing four statements with a blank for us to fill in on our own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her at Hilary(at)feelingbeachie(dot)com. If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop! This week’s co-host is BECKEY Pickles from THE REALLY REALLY REAL HOUSEWIVES who came up with the last statement! Hilary REALLY NEEDS CO-HOSTS, after so many weeks I am running out of statements!

This week’s statements:

1. One of my best and worst traits is that I ______
2. If I could escape for a day, I’d _____
3. The best part of ___ is _____
4. When I was young I thought _______.

My answers:

1. One of my best and worst traits is that I always give people the benefit of the doubt. Not always a good thing!

2. If I could escape for a day, I’d sit on a beach, either in the Keys or on the West-Coast of Florida, in the shade of a palm tree, reading a good book.

3. The best part of being a mom is all the love and hugs I get from my kids.

4. When I was young I thought (in German) I’d always live in the area I grew up in. Boy, I couldn’t have been more wrong.

After dinner we saw this little guy running around on our deck and decided to get a closer look.

To see if he would do this. He did, eventually, but he made us wait for it.

So, I took some more shots at different angles when he had enough of sitting still for the camera and ran up the screen enclosure.

And then, I almost ran into this guy. Luckily, I saw him before I got that yucky ‘I ran into a spiderweb feeling’ and managed to get a shot.

Then, I heard this weird buzzing and looked up to see this little fellow in the corner of the screen, desperate to get out. I think, the pool guy or the girls left the screen door open, or he managed to buzz in through the doggie door, or our screen may just be old and have a few not so screened in parts anymore. Aren’t those wings cool looking?

Fascinating, isn’t it? Yup. that’s my life, fascinating alright! 🙂

Finding those things around my house would terrify me! Though the wings on that one look pretty cool!

    • Susi May 24, 2013 at 9:21 am

Well, these were all on the pool deck and we are used to it. It’s just part of life here! You get used to it. 🙂

I remember seeing lizards when I lived in California. As for the fill in, can I join you on the beach with a book?I’ll be quiet I promise.

    • Susi May 24, 2013 at 9:20 am

I’ll make sure there’ll be another lounge chair available! And maybe some iced tea with lemon. 🙂

  • Katrin May 24, 2013 at 7:56 am

I have never seen a lizard around our house! So cool!

    • Susi May 24, 2013 at 9:19 am

Oh, Katrin, they are everywhere here. I’ve had them in the bathtub. It’s part of Florida living. 🙂

  • AnnMarie May 24, 2013 at 8:41 am

Great pictures! Scary to deal with them but great pictures. Gia is the same way as your little one. She’ll tackle me and say, “I just love you!” She pretty much has me wrapped around her little finger. I give people the benefit of the doubt, too and have been burned by it.

    • Susi May 24, 2013 at 9:18 am

It’s not so scary. I guess, you get used to it living in Florida for as long as I have now.

  • Judy May 24, 2013 at 9:05 am

Enjoy your daughter’s helpfulness while you can. They do outgrow it! Great pictures!

    • Susi May 24, 2013 at 9:18 am

Don’t I know it. My older two were very similar. But they all still help even if I have to remind them at times! 🙂

  • Alison May 24, 2013 at 9:50 am

    Aw, the hugging! That’s adorable!
Gosh, that’s a lot of bugs *shudder* 🙂

    • Susi May 24, 2013 at 2:35 pm

Alison, you get used to it after a while. 🙂 Also, hubby needs to pressure clean! 🙂

  • Tami AKA My Kid's Mom May 24, 2013 at 9:53 am

We used to get lizards all the time growing up in VA but I’ve never seen one in IL.

    • Susi May 24, 2013 at 2:34 pm

I do believe, they prefer the warmer climate! 🙂

  • Rorybore May 24, 2013 at 8:04 pm

so far, I think it is safe to say, we could very easily all meet up somewhere on a beach and have a great time.

wow. your house is like wild kingdom!! LOL
    my kids would love it.
but i’d have to move….because Spider!!

    • Susi May 24, 2013 at 8:13 pm

The spiders come with the territory. Not that I want to get too close to them… but they do eat the bugs! 🙂

  • Hilary May 25, 2013 at 7:36 am

I love little – I can just picture her doing all that stuff. Please give her a hug from me!

    • Susi May 26, 2013 at 6:21 pm

Will do. Hugs back at you! 🙂

  • Claudia May 25, 2013 at 8:41 am

You’re kid(s) do sound adorable, you are very lucky to have them. I am with Leslie – let’s meet at the beach, but totally opposite to your no. 4. I always knew I wanted to go somewhere else 😉

    • Susi May 26, 2013 at 6:20 pm

Thanks, Claudia. Yes, let’s meet at the beach and stick our toes in the sand! 🙂

  • kimberly May 26, 2013 at 6:43 am

Oh no! I hope that your plants are OK. We had tons of rain too and our “pond” drowned them.
Those hugs make everything better don’t they.
I’d be on the beach too.

    • Susi May 26, 2013 at 6:19 pm

Kimberly, I lost some that I had in containers. But I only have grass and some hedges in the backyard for that reason. 🙂

  • Kerry May 28, 2013 at 8:31 am

I would have been running out of that shade area at the first sight of that lizard lol
I am glad you are getting all those hugs and help from your daughter, what a sweet age she is at!
I hope the rain eases a little for you soon too so you guys can get outside to play!!

    • Susi May 28, 2013 at 9:41 am

Thanks, Kerry. The rain, unfortunately, will be part of our daily lives until October or so… but it usually only lasts for a bit and the sun returns. I’m also quite used to the lizards and pretty much ignore them or photograph them! 😉

  • Natalie @MamaTrack May 30, 2013 at 2:44 pm

Yikes! I’d totally freak out. WOW!

    • Susi May 30, 2013 at 3:52 pm

I think, once upon a time I did too but now I’m just so used to it. 🙂
