Old School Blogging – Alphabet Style {June}

June 6, 2013

I love waking up in the morning, not quite knowing what I should post – not that there aren’t a million things swirling around in my mind – and something stares me right in the face!

It’s the beginning of June and that means – time for some Old School Blogging with Elaine and her co-host Jenniferย and it also happens that Kerstin, a fellow German living abroad, in her case, Canada, tagged me in this month’s meme.

It’s also my mom’s birthday today and I made her this…

mom birthday

Happy Birthday, mom. Love you!!!!

So, here goes, some old school blogging, alphabet style...

A. Attached or Single? Attached to this guyย ย for 13 years, 12 of those married. ๐Ÿ™‚

B. Best friend? My friend K. We went to school together in Germany and came to the US the same year, her as an exchange student in Kentucky, where she now lives and me, with my family to Florida permanently.

4-30 friend collage

C. Cake or Pie? Definitely, cake, like this vanilla pound cake. Pie, in my mind is an American thing and I’ve never quite developed a taste for it.

D. Day of choice? Hmmm. Tough one. Probably Saturday…

E. Essential item? Probably my phone… I’d say my camera is pretty essential to me too but the phone has one built-in so yeah, definitely my phone. (Samsung Galaxy S3)

F. Favorite color? Blue, any and all shades.

G. Gummy bears or worms? Gummy bears. Preferably, Haribo gummy bears. “Haribo macht Kinder froh – und Erwachsene ebenso.” (in English:ย (“Haribo makes children happy – and adults as well”) If you are German and know this little jingle, you’re welcome!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

H. Hometown? Schraplau/Germany… but for the past 13 years it’s been Boca Raton, Florida – the longest I’ve lived in one place!

I. Favorite Indulgence? Chocolate.

J. January or July? January, in Florida, there is no better time of year…

K. Kids? 3 – A brunette boy, a red-headed girl and a blonde girl

L. Life isn’t complete without? My family and the kids’ laughter.

M. Marriage date? May 4th, 2001 (May the fourth be with you! Hubby will never forget our wedding anniversary, even though he’s a Trekkie not a Star Wars fan.) ๐Ÿ™‚

N. Number of brothers/sisters? 1 (little) sister, who just turned 30 and lives all the way in Germany but is coming for a visit next week…

O. Oranges or Apples? I live in Florida so it’s got to be oranges! Fresh squeezed orange juice is the best!!!

P. Phobias? Fishies swimming around my feet in the ocean. I prefer swimming in pools and as much as I love the ocean – it creeps me out. Even the little silver minnows.

Q. Quotes? Too many to count — see that quote tab up top? Yeah, check there!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ But this one is a favorite because it is proven true again and again.

john lennon quote

R. Reasons to smile? My kids laughter, a beautiful sunset, being in nature, a walk on the beach… a long talk with a good friend.

S. Season of choice? Spring.

T. Tag 5 people. Hilary, Leslie, Beth Ann, Katrin, and Sharon.

U. Unknown fact about me? About three years ago I had a brush with cervical cancer (carcinoma in situ)… I’ve been “cancer-free” since I’ve had surgery but have been in the care of an gynecological oncologist since then.

V. Vegetable? Mixed peas and carrots. Reminds me of childhood.

W. Worst habit? I’ve mentioned this one before – I’m a scab picker!

X. Xray or Ultrasound? Ultrasound – we had the change to do a 3-D ultrasound with our youngest and it was so cool. I knew, she would have her big sister’s cute nose…

Y. Your favorite food. Definitely Japanese – I love sushi/sashimi, the less rice the better.

Z. Zodiac sign? Aries.

Okay, guys, it’s your turn now. Come link up with…

I think those 3D ultrasounds are so cool.

    • Susi June 8, 2013 at 6:55 pm

Yes, they are pretty amazing. I normally would not have spend the money on it but figured since it was our last why not have the experience! ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy happy birthday to your Mom!
I have to admit that I still don’t fully understand the difference between cake and pie. ๐Ÿ™‚ All I know is that I don’t like frosting!
Thanks for tagging me, dear! What a fun thing! I will definitely post one this weekend as well!

Go team Aries! And also, I want to live in FL, by the beach. FOR REAL. I’ll drink some of that fresh-squeezed juice every day too! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thank you! I’ll send the greetings along. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Kimberly June 7, 2013 at 8:34 am

Oooo..florida oranges. My in-laws are snow birds and travel there to escape the Canadian winter. The smuggled oranges across the border (that is a no no) and they were so so good.

    • Susi June 8, 2013 at 6:48 pm

Wow. Amazed they got them through. But good for you for being able to enjoy them!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Kim@Co-Pilot Mom June 7, 2013 at 11:17 pm

I love my phone and its camera, too. Since I got it, I have barely used my camera-camera. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Susi June 8, 2013 at 6:52 pm

I try to use my camera a few times a week because I’m still learning and I truly love it! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Alison June 9, 2013 at 9:28 am

Love that you shared the Haribo jingle!
    Yum, Japanese food.

    • Susi June 9, 2013 at 4:34 pm

Alison, it’s one of those childhood things that never seems to go away. Every time I see a bag of Haribo I hear the song in my head! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Katie E June 9, 2013 at 5:40 pm

I kind of wish I could do without my phone, but I canโ€™t.
Chocolate is a wonderful indulgence, isnโ€™t it?
May the 4th is an easy day to rememberโ€ฆhaha.
Oh goodness, so glad youโ€™re cancer-free โ€“ how scary!
    Oh, Japanese is seriously yummy.
I never got one of those 3d ultrasounds and I kind of wish I had.

    • Susi June 9, 2013 at 9:31 pm

Katie, I was going back and forth about the ultrasound and finally just went for it, knowing that it was my last pregnancy! It was pretty awesome. ๐Ÿ™‚

All shades of blue are my favorite too.

I once visited Florida in April and that was pretty nice. I couldn’t imagine being there in the middle of summer, that’s for sure.

    • Susi June 9, 2013 at 9:32 pm

April is a great time to visit Florida… but the summers can get brutal. Today, after it rained, it felt like a sauna. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Kristen June 9, 2013 at 11:05 pm

Yay for Samsung Galaxy S3! I truly can’t live without mine. Not because of the social media stuff attached to it but I have everything on my calendar and it reminds me of everything. It definitely helps keep me out of trouble! Before I had it, I was either way to early, late or just plain missed things.
    Also, I heart Florida!

    • Susi June 10, 2013 at 9:57 pm

Yeah, I’ve got my calender on the phone too. It’s definitely kept me from becoming completely disorganized!!! I heart Florida too and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.

I believe January in Florida is a lot like January here in my side of the world, the Philippine Islands: not too hot, not too cold, “all you need is a light jacket.” (I borrowed that line from “Miss Congeniality. Yeah, I’m a romcom/comedy movie geek)
Stopping by from Elaine’s blog and #OBS ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Susi June 10, 2013 at 9:55 pm

That pretty much sums it up. The light jacket is usually only needed at night. Thanks for stopping by. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Farrah June 11, 2013 at 4:17 am

I love that quote- that’s a good one for sure. And I’m with you on waking up wondering what to write about. I do the same thing- I never was good at planning out posts. Lucky you for having your bff so close. I think that’s an awesome story!

    • Susi June 11, 2013 at 9:16 pm

Thanks, Farrah. It’s pretty amazing how some things work out in life!

  • Maureen@ScoopsofJoy June 12, 2013 at 5:23 am

Love, Florida! My ex inlaws lives in Ft. Pierce and I just love FL.
    Love that quote ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Susi June 12, 2013 at 10:39 pm

Ft. Pierce is not that far from here – I think, about 1 1/2 hours north of us. I love Florida too. ๐Ÿ™‚
