We’ve lived in our neighborhood for over ten years now and one thing that was always missing was a playground for the littles. This is a family community with many kids around. For the longest time a lot of emphasis has been put on tennis – there are plenty of tennis courts to go around but someone finally got wise and decided to do something for the kiddos. Ally cannot wait until it’s finished. We’ve been watching the demolition and reconstruction of the old basketball/tennis courts for weeks now. Very soon we will have 4 new basketball courts, 2 pickle ball courts, 2 more tennis courts and a playground. Best of all – it’s right down the street from me…
In case you were wondering what pickle ball is, here’s a video. I had no clue either before doing some research on YouTube!!! And now I’m actually kind of excited – I used to love playing badminton growing up in Germany and I love ping-pong. 🙂
The new job
It’s Friday, and my first official day off- yes, after only working for a day and a half. 🙂 It’s kind of a nice way to ease myself back into the working world. I’m sure this coming week will be interesting – the first full week of me working and all of us getting used to the new routine.
One thing I’m not too fond off, is the early hour I have to get up each morning – but I’ll get used to it and my trade-off is weekends home with the kids! That’s the nice thing about this preschool I’m lucky enough to work at now – my schedule is very similar to my kids’ – weekends off, same holidays, and school breaks. I do think, that once I get my bearings, I’ll really enjoy working there…
These first days are always a little nerve wrecking, trying to get to know the kids and all the teachers and the schedule and the songs and so on and so on. It’s a lot. I know a lot of people think that working in a preschool is glorified babysitting but it really isn’t – you’d be amazed what these kids learn nowadays. Our three-year-old class actually gets homework!!!
At the end of the first day, I knew all the kids names in my class, by the end of the half-day yesterday, I knew a lot of the other teacher’s names – the staff meeting helped – and got to work on preparing some crafts and lessons for next week. I also love the lead-teacher I’m working with – we worked together at summer camp and I think, we’ll make a good team.
So yes, I’m enjoying myself and that’s a big bonus, right?
Last night, I spent a few hours researching options for continuing education – and I think, I will go with the national certification for preschool teachers – it’s available online which is a big deal for me and it’s nationally accredited, not just in Florida. I’m going to do some more poking around before settling on an option. This is the next step in my journey and I can’t wait to take it…
Follow Friday Four Fill in Fun
Each week, Hilary plans on listing four statements with a blank for us to fill in on our own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her! If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop!
This week’s co-host is William from Speak of the Devil! He came up with the last two statements! Hilary REALLY, REALLY, REALLY NEEDS SOME STATEMENTS!
She would LOVE it if you could please help Her spread the word about this hop…. So, please tweet,FaceBook share, and add the linky to your post…
This week’s statements:
1) I can’t believe that _____
2) To celebrate ____ I _______
3) The meaning of life is _____
4) I can’t stand _____
1) I can’t believe that I already have a day off after only working for a day and a half! A nice easy week to ease myself back into the working world!
2) To celebrate my kids birthdays I always hang up a happy birthday banner, decorate a little and bake a cake the night before and when they wake up – voila, instant celebrations. They love it and so do I!!!
3) The meaning of life is not something I can explain.
4) I can’t stand car line at school. Every parent who ever had the “pleasure” of sitting in car line probably understands my woes – poor hubby has to deal with it right now, since I don’t have a car!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
