Cheese/Coldcut Platter (Käse/Wurstplatte) – What’s for dinner?

November 23, 2013

We have these types of platters a lot – cheese/coldcut and crackers. I grew up with them. We usually had coldcuts and cheese on a piece of bread like an open sandwich, cut into triangles and piled high on a plate. I’ve adapted a little to my hubby’s American taste buds and we serve with crackers on the side. It’s usually a comfy, cozy dinner with all of us piled on the couch watching TV – we love Anthony Bourdain…

You can tell, both our hubbys are American. I am having a hard time convincing him of a simple nice ‘Butterbrot’. Only time it works is if I prepare it kind of like you do, but 1) that is quite a bit of work i.e. takes time and 2) we don’t eat red meat, which limits choices a lot. Your platter looks extremely yummy! (Looks like Teewurst :))

Claudia, it is Teewurst. We can buy it at Fresh Market occasionally. I love it. And you could still make a nice platter using chicken or turkey!!! 🙂

We often do something like this too, instead of a formal big lunch/dinner. My kids love it and have called it a “Snack Party.” My husband is half German, so I guess we have been carrying on a tradition without even knowing it! 🙂
looks very good. tonight is Breakfast for dinner at our house and hubby is working hard on pancakes!
