Friday Fun

January 3, 2014

It’s Fridayyyyyyy… The first (Friday) of the year and also the first Follow Friday Four Fill in Fun of the year. But I’ll get to that in a bit.

Look at this face! Isn’t he handsome? He’s smiling! Conner had his friends over for a sleepover and some birthday cupcakes a few days after his birthday  – but who’s counting? Poor guy has his special day at a very busy time of year, wedged in between Christmas and New Years, and during school break. Not ideal for big parties or get-together’s but we make do. Luckily, Conner doesn’t care for big parties and instead prefers to spend time with his best friends.

They did what teenage boys do – stayed up late playing video games, raided the pantry and ate all of little sister’s Nilla Wafers (bad boys) and slept in the next morning!

13 candles on those cupcakes. 13!

The next morning (Thursday), I sent Ally in to wake up the boys – payback’s no fun (they kept me up until the wee hours of the morn’) – made them a nice breakfast of pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausage and bacon and snapped a few pics of them getting ready to head out to the paintball place. Santa brought Conner a bunch of gear for Christmas.

I was going to take them but Conner’s friend’s dad wanted to go and ended up taking them instead which saved me from trying to keep the girls busy for a few hours in a fairly remote area with not much around.

I heard they had fun and only suffered some minor “injuries”, namely bruising. If the boy looks anything like the first time he went, he’ll be black and blue in a few places. Apparently, those paintballs smart a bit when you get hit with one.

Today, he is still at his friend’s house after a sleepover there and on his way to the beach! (Sorry, my northern friends.)

Meanwhile, the girls and I have been enjoying a lazy, quiet morning, with some house work thrown in. But I’m looking out the window and see the sun shining brightly, a cool breeze blowing and the camera next to me on the table. I may have to get us going and heading to the nature preserve or something… But out, enjoying this beautiful day before school starts on Monday!

Each week, Hilary lists four statements with a blank for us to fill in on our own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her.

If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop!

This week’s co-host is DONETTA from MY CONSTANT THOUGHT she came up with the last statement.

The statements:

  1. Is it really ____?
  2. I am the opposite of ____.
  3. Saying ____ is hard for me
  4.  I My favorite pastime is ___because it allows me to___

My answers:

  1. Is it really almost time to go back to school? Next week will be tough – not sure how we are all going to be able to get up at 6 AM.
  2. I am the opposite of confrontational.
  3. Saying “No” is hard for me.
  4. My favorite past time is reading because it allows me to escape to a different world for a little while! ( I want to try to read more in 2014.)

I don’t miss getting up at 5 am to go to work. It is a benefit of retirement not to wake up to an alarm clock.

I envy you that, Judy. We all enjoyed our two week break and ready or not, come Monday morning we will be back to the school/work routine!!! 🙂

Reading is one of the best things to do! 🙂
Happy happy birthday to your son!

I agree with you, Katrin! And thank you so much. 🙂

A lot of us have a hard time saying no….

    • Susi January 3, 2014 at 10:59 pm

      I noticed that too. 🙂

I am fortunate — my kids wake up at the same time in the morning no matter how late they go to bed…..or if it is a holiday. Yeah me!! LOL
But it’s not so bad because their normal time is between 7 and 7:30 am. I have to admit, that is fairly lucky.
But I got the snow and freezing temperatures: you win some, you lose some! 🙂
Looking forward to seeing some pictures from your outdoor adventure.

I posted an album to facebook and also a flipgram ( a new fave) to Instagram – hope you saw them. We had a blast and can’t wait to do it again soon.

    13. Wow. My little guy turns 13 in September, no idea how that happened…. Looks like he had a great time; my daughter is banned from sleepovers for a while, because her bedroom is right above ours and I would get no sleep at all. No idea where those teens get all that energy!

    • Susi January 5, 2014 at 12:49 am

I don’t blame you about not having sleepovers – I only do them few and far between now. It’s crazy how loud they get – wish we had a basement where I could set up a room for them! 🙂

Just this morning sitting at breakfast I was thinking that next week will be tough. A full week after so many weeks with holidays on and off.
I am also not the confrontational kind…

    • Susi January 5, 2014 at 11:53 am

This week will be an adjustment after two weeks at home with the family and many late mornings… But I’m also ready for the new things coming our way! 🙂

I’d have the same answers as you too! And 6 in the morning? That’s what time my toddler wakes up. I can barely roll out of bed at that time let alone earlier! Ha!

    • Susi January 5, 2014 at 11:52 am

Tomorrow morning will be super tough for all of us – well, except the husband maybe, he’s an early riser!!! 🙂
