Friday, Friday, Friday

June 26, 2014

As much as I’ve been enjoying camp, this week I’m really looking forward to Friday! I need some rest people. It’s was another fun-filled week at camp with a snorkeling field trip and another one to the Fishing Hall of Fame today! At camp we had a wild animal show, dissected some squid, made sand art and some “sea urchins” out of marshmallows and pretzel sticks which the kids ate right away, of course. These were definitely a lot tastier than the real sea urchin I’ve tried before! ๐Ÿ™‚

And this is me after today’s World Cup game – Germany vs. USA – yes, I was very happy that Germany won today but even happier that both teams got to advance into the Round of 16. Now the real fun begins!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

And just for fun. Here’s a little turtle buddy that we saw at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center the other day. He’s recuperating from a propeller strike and some other ailments. Hopefully, he’ll be back in the ocean soon!

Okay, you know the deal โ€“ Each week, Hilary lists four statements with a blank for us to fill in on our own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill inโ€™s of your own, please email them to her.

If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop! Hilary REALLY NEEDS STATEMENTS!

This weekโ€™s co-host is Elizabeth from Silverโ€™s Reviews. She came up with the last two statements

The statements:

  1. I am trying hard to learn how to ____
  2. ย ___ makes me think that ____
  3. When you try too hard, _______
  4. Can you really______?

My answers:

  1. I am trying hard to learn how to graciously accept help – it doesn’t come easy!
  2. Being a counselor for Science Adventure Camp makes me think that I‘ve been missing out on many things Florida has to offer.
  3. When you try too hard, you sometimes make things more difficult on yourself and those around you!
  4. Can you really teach an old dog new tricks? I’d like to think in some cases you can!

Sometimes, the answers just come to me and sometimes it takes me forever to come up with good fill ins. I guess, it just depends on the statements and your state of mind! ๐Ÿ™‚

Graciously accepting help is hard…we are taught right from the beginning to be independent and to need help is a bad thing. Sad. Try too hard does make things messy doesn’t it? I do think old dogs can be taught new tricks…if you can think and are willing you can learn.

Sounds, and looks, like you are having a great summer.

awww poor wee turtle! I hope he is on the mend soon.
Your camp looks like so much fun.
And I absolutely think yu can teach an old dog new tricks! I didn’t really start using a computer (I mean outside of work duties) until my mid 30s and I had to teach myself everything. And now I am learning photography in my 40s. I can’t imagine ever NOT wanting to learn something new.

Leslie, most of the turtles brought to Gumbo Limbo make a full recovery and are returned to the ocean. Just recently one was released and I’ve been following her track (they attached a tracking device to her, as they do with all turtles released from there) – she’s now all the way up the Florida coast and seemingly doing okay!!! The ones that cannot be released, they easier keep in one of their big tanks on public few or they get transported to other facilities around the country.
I also agree with you, I consider myself a life long learner and can’t imagine not learning something new all the time. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow, camp sounds AMAZING, but I can definitely see why you need to rest. I’m tired just reading about it.

Like you, I don’t accept help very well and am working on that. One thing that has definitely assisted on that journey was going to work full time. I definitely rely on my husband and kids for help now. I can’t keep up with everything otherwise.

Karen, going back to work full time has taught me a thing or two as well and in some ways made it easier to accept help and to let some things go. But it’ll always be a work in progress for me. It’s just the way I’m wired. ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a great weekend!
