I have pics on my phone that I haven’t shared. Not even on Facebook. So I decided to do a phone photo dump… something I’ve never really done before. I made two collages so it won’t be too overwhelming. It also serves as a way for me to get myself out of my “blogging funk”. I was just talking to the hubby and tried to explain my feelings to him and what it breaks down to is the fact that I feel insignificant and often ask myself why I even bother. What makes my day to day life interesting enough for others to read? My blog serves as a journal, a diary of sorts, of my life. His answer basically was “Who cares?” and he’s right, it doesn’t matter why I do it or what I write. I know, I have my little tribe that I share with and that commiserates with me and I love you guys, I really do. (You know who you are!!!) And I also enjoy doing this. So I will keep plugging along, and stay a part of this crazy awesome blogosphere! 🙂
Today, I spend most of the day with this view… Well, really, the last three days and to be continued tomorrow.
Little one has been sick since Saturday. She woke up complaining about her throat hurting and it went downhill from there. After taking an unusual for her nap, she woke up and proceeded to throw up all over the place, including me at one point! I haven’t been puked on since the kids were babies and I could have cheerfully lived without this episode. Sunday she seemed a bit better and the fever was down to an elevated temperature. She thought, she could make it to school this morning. Not so – her fever spiked to 101.5 and stayed that way most of the day. She’s refusing to eat anything, even the ice cream the doctor “prescribed” her.
So I had an unexpected day “off” and managed to get a few things done in between the doctor’s appointment and taking care of her and relived my days as a stay-at-home mom. Sometimes, I truly miss it, especially when the kids are sick. There’s just always a little guilty feeling in the back of my mind when I’m not at work. Luckily, because of Thanksgiving this week, it’s rather quiet in the lab and me not being there won’t cause too much turmoil.
Last week, I baked a batch of my boys’ favorite almond cookies twice within a few days. I can never stop at one myself and they are a perfect compliment to any holiday cookie tray. The recipe comes from the carton of Publix butter and it’s still on there even after all this time. (I think, I found it about two years ago.) I changed it up a bit to give it a personal touch. I can’t help it. There are very few recipes that I leave totally alone.
Last Thursday, we celebrated an early Thanksgiving with Ally’s Kindergarten class, everyone contributed to the pot luck feast and the kids put on a little show. Little one and her friends made the cutest little pilgrims and Indians. It’s amazing seeing her and her friends grow up together. They are so adorable and you can tell that they all like each other and love spending time together.
On Saturday, my mom came over with my uncle and aunt who are visiting from Germany. The hubby roasted a prime rip to perfection and my uncle helped him in the kitchen. I love seeing them together. They really just enjoy each other’s company and the language barrier goes away and gets worked around. These are pretty much my two favorite guys and the love I have for my uncle can’t be explained – he’s more like an older brother to me, as he happens to be only 12 years older than I am. The kids adore him just as much and middle was stuck to his side the whole time they were here. I can’t wait for this coming weekend when we will all celebrate Thanksgiving together. My mommy is making a turducken!!! That pie in the upper left hand corner came courtesy of my mom as well. She knows my love for all things pumpkin and made this pumpkin cheesecake for us to enjoy. It is absolutely delectable!
These two shots are courtesy of my uncle who drives trains in Germany and this hawk decided to go along for a little ride on the front of the train after it flew into the wind shield. Guess he decided to take it easy for a bit and let someone else do the work for him for a change!
This was our dinner tonight. Shepherd’s Pie made with lamp and lots of veggies. It’s oh so good. I love making this dinner, it’s so homey and comforting to me. And we usually only have it around this time of year – it’s just way too hot over the summer to eat a heavy meal like this.
So, there you have it, some random photos and even more random thoughts! Hope you all have a great week!!!
