Thanksgiving fun and fill ins…

November 28, 2014

For the first time in a very, very long time we didn’t cook for Thanksgiving and ate out instead. Hubby’s grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s related dementia about two years ago and because of that it’s just been easier to go eat at her club where she is comfortable and close to home. Do we prefer to cook ourselves and eat at home? Yes. But in the big scheme of things it’s really not important where we are but that we are celebrating the holiday together.

Here is a picture of all the K. women – 3 generations…

And here is the whole clan. In front of this awesome chandelier. The club where grandma lives got a huge make-over in recent months and this was the first time since the beginning of the construction work that everyone got a glimpse of what’s been done. They really did a fantastic job and the place looks amazing.

So, I can’t really complain, I didn’t have to deal with rushing around ahead of time getting groceries in packed stores, cleaning the house, and cooking and baking, and driving my family crazy in the process. Instead, I’ve been able to relax, get a few things done around the house and not have to worry about the clean-up after the fact.

And best of all, we started getting our Christmas on… Wednesday night, ahead of our usual decorating schedule, the girls and I turned on the Pandora Christmas station, got all the boxes down from the shelf in the garage and starting setting up the tree and decorating the house. There is still some work to be done and I want to get a few new things to decorate with. It’s time to spruce things up a bit since most of our decorations have a few years under their belts and aren’t at their best anymore.

Don’t you just love our “fireplace”? πŸ™‚

I hope all of you, my dear readers and friends, had a wonderful holiday, enjoyed some yummy food and were able to relax with your loved ones around.

And now, on to some blog hop fun…

Here’s the deal. Each week Hilary posts four statements with blanks for us to fill in on our own blogs. You fill in the blanks with whatever comes to mind, link up and we’ll all have a great big linky party! Easy and fun!

The statements:
Can you really____if you don’t_____
What are your thoughts about______
Would you_____ if you could?
Do you listen to____ or _____?

My answers:

  1. Can you really ever understand another person if you don’t really know their story?
  2. What are your thoughts about fake versus real Christmas trees?
  3. Would you get a cleaning lady if you could?
  4. Do you listen to pop music or rock n’ roll music? Or both?
Feeling Beachie

Well, that was fun. Hope you will play along!

I’m going to take it easy for the rest of the day and get packing so we can spend the weekend with my mom, and aunt and uncle for their first Thanksgiving ever. It’s pretty neat that they came to visit at this time of year and we get to spend the holiday with them. I may even leave the house to check out a few stores for those aforementioned Christmas decorations. And if I happen to see a deal or two, I may even help Santa and start on that Christmas shopping list!!! πŸ™‚

We have used an artificial tree for 39 years. The last real tree we had became a fire hazard on Christmas Day. Glad you enjoyed your Thanksgiving and have a wonderful weekend.

I honestly don’t see anything wrong with an artificial tree. Real trees are awesome but also a lot more work.

You are completely right, it is way more important to be with loved ones than to stress out over cooking and preparations. Your family pics are wonderful.
No. 1 – you can always only try and give it your best shot. But you are right, it definitely helps to know a little bit more.
I don’t think I would ever get a fake Christmas tree, yet, only last year I said goodbye to real candles, so you never know.
No. 3 – absolutely! Since there is only the two of us she only visits us every two weeks, but I definitely would not want to miss it.
Pop or rock etc. – rock’n roll isn’t really my cup of tea.

Claudia, that’s all I would want, someone to come in every two weeks to take care of the major chores…

I am in total agreement with you about not knowing the whole story. I always say that you have to know both sides of anyone’s story.

I would love to have a cleaning lady. πŸ™‚

I like real Christmas trees, but I am not opposed to a fake one.

ENJOY your weekend…I love your answers.

I would totally get a cleaning person if I could! πŸ™‚ Sometimes cleaning is relaxing and inspiring, but other times those hours would be more happily spent accomplishing other things!

    Have a GREAT weekend!

    I have a real fireplace and I get a real tree — so it’s a matching festive set. πŸ™‚
I love the smell of both.
I’m going to start my decorating next week. Hubby is away for work the next 2 weeks, and the kids will be in school all day.

You are so right – it’s not the where you are, but the WHO you are with on holidays. But I bet it is nice to get a break from the cooking too. I did our Thanksgiving AND I am doing the Christmas too! Which means after New Years’ I will need a big nap. πŸ™‚

Ha ha ha. That is a lot. We will host Christmas Eve – my mom. And sister will come over. Christmas Day we will be at the club with grandma again… So it’s not too bad. I do love the smell of a real tree and I always dreamed of having a fire place but really what’s the use, we’d only be able to use it once a year here. πŸ™‚

Your family is so lovely! I do not have a Christmas tree at all, just some Christmas lights. πŸ™‚

    • Susi December 2, 2014 at 2:57 pm

And that’s totally okay. Whatever floats your boat. I do love the look of the tree and decorating with my kids…

  • Hilary November 30, 2014 at 8:27 am

    I love your #1 and I don’t think that you can….

    • Susi December 2, 2014 at 2:58 pm

Probably not but its always good to give it a shot and give people the benefit of the doubt!
