Christmas Decor 2014

December 1, 2014

Since we didn’t have to cook for Thanksgiving this year, the girls and I got a head start on our Christmas decorating. We usually start the Friday after Thanksgiving since I refuse to shop on Black Friday. But this year we started the day before, on Wednesday. There was some discussion about getting a real tree again this year, since my boys are not too fond of the fake one I got last year. After some back and forth it was decided that we would stick with our fake one… I happen to like it since I don’t have to worry about watering it and needles flying everywhere.

One of my favorite Christmas decoration is my collection of nutcrackers. Ever since I got the first one, I decided I want to start a collection and each year, I find a new one to add to it. This year, we got the one standing in the middle. Little sister picked him out, she liked his sparkly, sequined outfit. I love to unwrap these guys each year and watch my collection grow.

I grew up with an advent wreath in the house and made this little one about two years ago. Mrs. Claus and Santa are watching over it to make sure that Finn doesn’t play with it in out absence! πŸ™‚

Here’s another shot of my nutcracker collection on the entry table.

I also splurged on a new tree skirt this year and again, little one helped me pick it out. She has a thing for sparkles and sequins and I happened to like this one too. It looks real pretty and shiny under the lit tree. Finn thinks so too and continues to play with it and mess it up. Bad kitty! I think, Gracie misses the other tree skirt, that one was more fluffy and soft, a perfect spot for napping. So far she hasn’t napped on this one.

And each year, we add an ornament or two, or three… I admire the beautiful, color coordinated and perfectly decorated trees I see in magazines but mine won’t ever look that way. Ours is a family tree, decorated with ornaments that have meaning, ornaments that little hands made and friends gifted us. I found this guitar ornament and just couldn’t resist it. How is it possible that in all these years I’ve never added a musical ornament to our tree? That’s going to change, starting with this one. Music is everywhere in our house and should be a part of the tree as well.

I love our new stockings. The old ones started looking pretty sad and the girls and I fell in love with these. I love this whole little area. The teddy bears are from the boy’s and middle daughter’s first Christmases respectively, the tin was a present from friends, once filled to the brim with delicious caramel popcorn and the polar bear we got last year as a promo gift from Coca Cola. Middle just had to have him. πŸ™‚

How cute is this turtle? I got three of these. One for me, and the other two for two of my colleagues. We all love turtles and I just couldn’t resist getting these little guys. Have you ever seen a sea turtle hatchling that’s only hours old? The cute will make you melt. I’ll dig through my pics from summer and share one soon. Seriously adorable.

Couldn’t not get an owl ornament. Owls are the thing right now, especially if you are middle daughter. Little one actually picked this one out. Middle found a different one she fell in love with. I thought it would go on her tree but it’s on the family tree, I just never got a shot of it.

And I seriously could not resist this guy when I saw him. Maybe I’ll start collecting nutcracker ornaments for the tree as well and see which collection grows faster! πŸ™‚

The girls picked out these figure skate ornaments. So pretty, shiny and sparkly. Notice a theme yet?

These are some of our new addition to our Christmas decor collection. I love seeing it change and grow and when I look back at how far we’ve come from our first Christmas together, waiting for our first baby to be born (he was due Christmas Eve), no tree in sight, I can’t hep but smile!

Hope you enjoyed seeing a glimpse of what Christmas looks like at our house. Do you have any Christmas decor collections? Do you love to decorate? What’s your favorite part of decorating? I’d love to know, so if you feel like sharing, leave a comment!!!

Have a great week everyone!!!

xoxo Susi

Wow – there’s a lot of decoration going on in your house, very American of you πŸ˜‰ Well, no, I guess it really always depends on personal styles. I like some Christmas deco, but not too much. I totally understand your sentiments about a family tree vs. a designed tree – I also like both. And your nutcracker collection is wonderful. Maybe I’ll pick up a new ornament or two while being in NYC this week πŸ™‚

I don’t think it’s too much decor compared to some other places I’ve seen but my collection does grow a little each year. I do enjoy it but by January I’m always ready to have the house back to normal! πŸ™‚

I just got my first nutcracker last year. I don’t know why I haven’t bought one before. They are so iconic with the holiday season!!!

I know. I got my first one at Epcot in the German pavilion of course and it just kind of took off from there. I get excited each year looking for a new one to add to the collection. πŸ™‚

LOVE the Nutcrackers! you know, I don’t have a single one! I’ll have to try and fix that this year.
Sparkly stuff tho – with 2 girls also – that is Everywhere!!
Our new ornaments this year were Olaf, Anna, and Captain America. I don’t think any of those are a surprise! Can’t find Elsa though – always sold out.
Now that I see your pretty new stockings, I think this might be the year for new ones for us too. But I’d love to make our own, so maybe next year.
Tiny turtle!!!! must get one. πŸ™‚
