Wednesday was a pretty emotional day for me. I didn’t expect to take little one’s graduation quite so hard. I felt like a mush for the rest of the day after the ceremony and class party in the morning. I know we are not going anywhere. I know she will still be at this school with most if not all of her fiends and classmates. Things really aren’t changing this much. But somehow, seeing our babies looking so grown up in their cap and “gowns” that day, made me want to stop time. Part of it is knowing that our boy is starting high school after the summer and in 4 short years, I’ll be crying at his graduation.
“Congratulations! Today is your day. You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away!” ~ Dr. Seuss
Thursday evening brought a lot of questions about the way I grew up and about the wall and what it was all about. She wanted to know if I knew people on the “other” side and if they were my friends. Questions unusual for a 6 year old but not a surprise coming from her. She’s so wise at times. My little old soul. Just like her mommy, I guess, since someone mentioned how mature and wise I often come across.
Friday, I found her clinging to her teachers legs at pick-up. She did not want to leave and the previous excitement about being a first grader replaced with sadness about leaving her favorite teachers behind. The last day of Kindergarten is officially over and summer camp right around the corner.
Today is all about the animals. Our little weekend zoo. Finn is trying to stay above it all and wants to be left alone, except when it’s time for some cuddles for our regal queen. Budda just wants to eat and sleep and may poke his head out at night when it’s quiet and we are all off in dreamland. The fish got a few new tank mates last night and seem to enjoy schooling in a larger group. They also enjoyed a “treat” of blood worms. What a sight to see! Ruby and Remy are new family members and will not leave on Monday and go back to school. And Snowball just wants to nosh on a carrot and hop around the kitchen when no one is watching. And our Gracie, who’s not pictured, just follows me like a little shadow and just wants to be held and loved.
Meet the “rat lady”!!! 🙂
So there you have it. The last few days. Catching up with project 365. We are enjoying a quiet weekend at home, relaxing, not doing too much (except the usual chores) and trying to decide if we want to drive all the way East for dinner to try a new restaurant. What are you up to?
