Last year I, more or less successfully, completed a photography project 365. It started here on the blog and eventually moved to my Instagram account with weekly recaps here. That worked better all in all since I didn’t always have time to post here daily and let’s face it, it’s much easier on Instagram. I didn’t follow any rules or guidelines or used any prompts. I posted whatever happened that day. The only “rule” I gave myself was that the photo should be taken that day. I was pretty successful in that regard since barely a day goes by where I don’t take a picture of something.
This year, I decided to go for it again but with a little extra guidance… This year, instead of posting whatever comes to mind, I decided to find the good in each day. Because as Alice Morse Earle so nicely stated:
“Every day may not be good… but there’s one good thing in every day.”
Life isn’t always pretty. Things happen and it’s easy to get bogged down in the negative. I decided, after being inspired by one of the weekly newsletters from this awesome woman, to try to look for the good in each day. Even the smallest thing… It doesn’t always have to be something obvious. It’s the little things that can make you smile and look back on a day with fond memories.
2016 hasn’t exactly started the way I had hoped and we already had our fair share of “bad” happen. On January 4th, we had to say goodbye to our little Gracie, who got sick while we were away on our first family vacation in about 10 years, and after one week of trying to get her better, we had to make the decision to let her go. I miss her…
Just the other day, I saw this little gem on Facebook.
“I decided that my 2016 will start again February 1st. January was only a practice month!”
So with that in mind, we will start the link up next Monday (2/1/16). We would love for you to join us with your #onegoodthing. It doesn’t have to be a photo… It can be a poem, an anecdote, a short story – anything good that happened that day, week, month. I post my daily goodness on Instagram and will link up my weekly recap here.
For now, I leave you with two collages of the last 3 weeks of my #onegoodthing Instagram photos. They are in no particular order from the firework shot I took just after midnight on January 1st, to the palm trees swaying in the breeze while we enjoyed an afternoon walk and Ash dressed up for her first bat mitzvah last night. There was a little bit, sometimes a lot, of good in each day and I’m glad I take some time each day to find it.
I hope all of you will have a week filled with goodness. For those of you up north, stay safe and warm. For those of you farther south, I hope you enjoy the cool weather as much as I am.
