“Every day may not be good… but there’s one good thing in every day!” ~Alice Morse Earle
I welcome you to my new project 365 and weekly link up #onegoodthing. My friends Claudia and Leslie have agreed to help me host the link-up which goes live each Monday (well, actually Sunday night around 11 pm if you want to be exact) and we would love for you to link up and share your #onegoodthing with us and our readers. It can be anything good that day, week, month… a photo, an anecdote, a poem. There are no rules, just goodness and hopefully smiles along the way.
I am currently sitting outside by the pool, enjoying a cup of coffee, the sunshine and cool air. It’s been another gorgeous day here in South Florida. I spent most of it taking care of household chores… grocery shopping, cleaning (3 bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, and cleaning out some cabinets along the way) and doing laundry. You know, all those things that no one likes to do but need to be done nonetheless. I still have a few more things on my list but wanted to start on my post so I don’t sit here at 11pm struggling to come up with something and trying to stay awake. This coming week will be another busy one with our high school science fair taking place and parent night on Thursday evening. Lots to do for me. The week after I’ll be gone for a few days since our first robotics competition of the season is coming up. Let’s just say that I’m very much looking forward to Spring Break.
And now for my recap of my #onegoodthing Instagram posts.
Monday. Day 53. Hubby had met with a general contractor at the new house and since they were still there when I was finished with work, he asked me to stop by and meet him. So we did. Spoke to the gc for a few minutes and after he left, enjoyed a few minutes of peace and quiet. I saw this cormorant (not an anhinga, as I had previously thought) sunning himself on the duck decoy in the lake and had to snap a quick pic. I’m so excited to have the lake in my backyard and be able to see all these birds and other critters. I’m sure there’ll be many pics with a #backyard and #nature hashtag in the future. 🙂
Tuesday. Day 54. Tuesday the boy drove us home part of the way. He’s been begging to let him drive more but I’m honestly not ready for him to drive in rush hour traffic. He did very well, and I’m sure after a few more times of easier driving areas, I will let him brave traffic as well. I saw the sun going down over the lake and just had to stop for a quick snap. It’s so hard to capture the true beauty of this. The sun was this big ball of fire going into the lake.
Wednesday. Day 55. Middle with her besties. Love that these girls stop by my lab almost daily to say hello. Wednesday was anti-bullying day and they all showed off their support by wearing pink.
Thursday. Day 56. Thursday evening, after school we had our annual science night and I usually help out. Little one loves this one so much and always has the best time. Middle made a new friend, Cleo the bearded dragon. I’m thinking about getting one for my lab but I’m still not 100% sure. My colleague has a baby in the lower school science lab and he’s a cutie. But they do get big and then look like this. We were the last ones to leave. And while I was super exhausted after the long day, it was a good tired.
Friday. Day 57. Friday I woke up and was happy that it was indeed Friday and the weekend right around the corner. I was able to sip my first cup of coffee in some semblance of quiet since my three darlings were taking their blessed time getting ready. This was my view while enjoying those first few hot sips of coffee. Beautiful. It was a busy day at work, but I got accomplished what I set out to do and was able to leave at a decent time. Right after work, I got to pick up my new ride – a Buick Enclave – and drive it of the lot with all of 23 miles on it. I’m a bit amazed at myself for liking an American car. I’ve never particularly cared for American cars but after renting the new Ford Explorer while we were in New York and then the Buick Enclave when hubby’s car broke down, I had to eat crow and admit my infatuation with these two cars. We liked both of them and ultimately decided to go with the Buick… I love love love it. So yeah, Friday was one of those big #onegoodthing days. 🙂
Saturday. Day 58. It seemed like we didn’t do much of anything all day but in reality were quite busy and my tiredness at the end of the day surely proved that point. Hubby and I met with another general contractor at the new house and I like him a lot and am happy that he’ll be working on the house and get it ready for us to move into. We spent about 3 hours with him and his assistant going over everything and discussing options… Let me tell you, if it was up to me, I’d move in tomorrow but I know that this work has to be done and that’s it’s a very good thing we don’t have to live in the house while that work is happening. But I’m very impatient and want to get my hands dirty and start doing things to make this house our new home. All in good time. I know. I know. It’ll be worth it in the end.
So after leaving the house, hubby and I headed home, had a quick cup of coffee and headed back out, with middle daughter in tow, to bring hubby’s old car to Carmax. While we were waiting for it to get appraised, we had a bite to eat at Cracker Barrel and then went back to say goodbye to “Mabel”. She was a good car for hubby for 10 years and as sad as we were to see her go, we knew it was time.
After that was taken care of we dropped middle of at her babysitting job for the evening and since it was in our neighborhood, we stopped by the house to watch the sunset and enjoy a few minutes of peace and quiet. Finally, we went home to feed our two homebodies and later, I went back to pick Ash up.
Sunday. Day 59. I haven’t yet decided what my #onegoodthing for today will be. It’s good that I got some of my chores done and out of the way. It always makes me feel better knowing that these things are taken care of and I don’t have to worry about it for a few days. It’s also good that I’m able to sit here, enjoy my cup of coffee, now tea, actually and just relax for a bit. It’s good that the kids are healthy and enjoying their weekend doing the things that make them happy. There really is no shortage of good things. I will see what comes to mind after I take care of a few more things…
It is now almost 10pm and I’m so very happy that I only need to add this special moment and my post will be ready to go. The moment I ended up choosing? This. Snuggle time with my littlest cutie pie. We don’t do this every night but I try to do it a few nights a week… She read me a book and then told me some stories until finally, I had to tell her it was time to go to sleep. One last hug, a kiss good night and lights out. Well, I just turned off her lights, since she needs them on to go to sleep…
It was a good day, and I’m glad I decided to get up and head straight to the grocery store to get that dreaded chore out of the way. It made for a much more relaxing day…
How was your week? We’d love to hear. Please share your #onegoodthing, either in a post or simply in a comment below.
