Demolition – The day after…

March 7, 2016

Do you remember this post? Demolition Day!

Here’s a look at the current state of our new house. I tried to put the pics in the same order, or as close to it as I could as in the previous post. It really only took one day to remove everything that needed to be removed. All the rooms look so different now. The bathrooms are especially interesting, since they removed some of the soffits so you can look all the way through the attic and see the roof. Ally thought it was so cool and wanted to crawl up there. I’m just excited that things are happening now. Ash and I went to the flooring store on Sunday and after my initial reaction of wanting to run away screaming (there’s sooooo much), we got to work and compared options. We had no problem at all picking out bathroom tile and it seems all of us are on the same page when it comes to that. Check!

The flooring on the other hand may become an issue. I had initially thought to go with the tile that looks like wood but really don’t want that in the bedrooms. We looked at both hardwood flooring and bamboo, as options. I like both. But, we ended up picking colors a lot darker then we had originally thought. I like light colors. But walking through the store, it just didn’t feel right. Don’t get me wrong, I think the white-washed and grey-toned wood looks stunning, I just don’t think it fits with the house. I want to speak with our gc and see what he has to say. I trust his opinion and figure he knows what he’s doing. He works on many different homes and knows what works and what doesn’t. So that battle is not quite won. Wish us luck!!!

Have a wonderful day!

xoxo, Susi

*Update: We stopped by the house again today since Ashley’s friend was coming home with us after school and hadn’t seen it yet. A few more walls, actually the drywalls, are gone now as well. The house truly is a construction zone at this point. I’m drowning in faucets, bathtubs and tile… so, so, so many choices. It’s way overwhelming. I’m pinning and saving things on house and in my note app like crazy. And I’m in the process of creating a Google doc (I LOVE Google docs) with everything listed out by room. That way I get all the stuff organized and my brain as well. πŸ™‚

It is exciting up to a point, and I’m trying to hold on to that. I’m just impatient to get it all done. But these things can’t be rushed if we want it done right.

I have always said I would never be good at building or major renovations because there are so many decision to make! This is going to be wonderful—you will have it all done before you know it. Have fun!

It can be daunting to say the least. Some days, I feel really good about everything and then the next I feel like nothing’s right. One day at a time… In a few months I will look back at this and won’t believe how fast everything happened. πŸ™‚

It so cool to see progress taking place as you make this place your dream home.

It is absolutely amazing and even when I get impatient I’m trying to look at the progress and not at the amount of work still to be done. But I’m happy to see each little piece of progress…

I remember when we remodeled our kitchen. Actually, we moved it to the opposite side of the house! Definitely was like living in a construction zone for about a month. And I was 7 months pregnant with a 2 year old at at that time. Do NOT do that. Ever. It was not fun. But – we did survive and still love our kitchen to this day. Can’t wait to see how this all turns out. I originally wanted lighter floors in our bedroom too – but when I saw the dark, I fell in love with them and they turned out perfect.

I’ve been wanting to get our kitchen redone in our current house but thinking of the mess, the work and all that has seriously put me off… Hubby went to the flooring store today and said he found a nice bamboo floor. So I think we might go with that. I like the idea of it for several reasons – it’s very, very sturdy and a readily available resource. We will see… πŸ™‚
