Right now I’m sitting on a king size bed in a hotel room in Orlando. I’m here because tomorrow begins our first robotics competition of the season. We arrived here late afternoon and since the only thing on the “schedule” was the load-in of the robot and the set-up of the pit which can only be done by four of the team members, the rest of us stayed at the hotel and have a chance to relax before all the craziness begins tomorrow.
The hotel serves a light dinner Monday through Thursday evenings which made our decision were to eat easy. There’s a Walgreens literally right next door and the kids already made use of it by stocking up on snacks.
Our rooms are suites and I feel like I’m in a little apartment. There a small kitchenette with a cooktop, a microwave, a full-size fridge. A small living room area with a pull-out couch and then a separate bedroom with a bathroom. It’s really very nice and I’m definitely comfortable. But it’s always a little strange to be alone in a hotel room, knowing that my hubby and girls are a few hours away at home. While I enjoy the quiet and relaxation, not worrying about all the things I normally do on a school night, I still don’t enjoy being away from home all that much.
But I will make the best of it and try to enjoy my time here. Looking forward to seeing how the practice day will pan out tomorrow and how the actual playing field for this challenge looks. So far, I’ve only seen it on video and in mock-ups…
Here are a few pics of my room.
If you are ever in the Orlando area, near UCF, I recommend you consider this hotel. The staff has been super friendly and accommodating so far.
I’m going to enjoy my cup of tea and the book I bought until it’s lights out. Have a great night everyone.
