Tying up loose ends, starting over and checking in

January 15, 2017

Hi. How are you? Remember me? It’s been a few weeks. Here I thought I’d have some time over the 2 week school break to get my blogging groove back, but boy was I ever wrong. We’ve been back at work and in school for a week now and I still haven’t been able to blog about the things I’ve been meaning to blog about. I mean, I’ve had this post swirling around my mind for weeks now. I guess, it could have been several posts that turned into just one due to my procrastination and inability to find the time…

First order of business – here’s a collage of my last few images from my project 365 #onegoodthing from 2016.

Starting with the bottom middle picture and going counter clockwise, these are my shots for day 360 through day 366. Our first Christmas in the new house, beautiful sunsets year-round, the Nespresso machine that Santa brought hubby was a big hit – who doesn’t like a homemade macchiato? I never got around to baking during the holiday season but my mom came to the rescue with some delicious Christmas cookies. Conner turned 16 and is currently taking a course for his motorcycle endorsement, if all goes well, he’ll be getting his license next week as well. Hold me!!! Ally makes me smile with her developing style. We left the house with her dressed in her cat gear and came home from the mall with her dressed as a princess. And then there’s me, an end-of-yer selfie before the New Year’s party. And that’s all she wrote for 2016…

Speaking of parties, I swear that’s what my 2 week break consisted of — prepping for parties, and then cleaning up from said parties. It started on Dec. 17th with a holiday party and ended last weekend with hubbies 40th birthday party and there was something going on every weekend in-between. Believe me when I say that I’m taking it easy this weekend. As I’m writing this, I’m listening to the gurgle of the pool fountains after having finished a late breakfast. As soon as I’m done with this post I’m going for a 2 mile walk around the neighborhood and then it’s off to lunch with grandma… after that maybe a nap and a movie with my girls…

How cool is that birthday cake? I wish, I could say that I made it but I’d be lying. It’s not something I would even consider attempting. I do want to try to use fondant one of these days, but I’ll start out very simple. It’s not something I’ve ever worked with and truth be told, it scares me a little. The party prep stressed me out immensely. I wanted things to be perfect for Corey but I also didn’t want to break the bank. I’d like to think, the party was a success and everyone had a good time. For my 40th – I still have a few years — I’m planning on going on a little trip. No party for me, thank you very much. πŸ™‚

A few days before the party, we pulled the trigger and adopted a pooch from the Humane Society of Broward CountyΒ . Our little Gracie left us exactly a year to the day we adopted Audrey. I knew, it was around this time last year but not the exact date. On the way to the shelter, a notification popped up on Facebook about my memories from this day… and there it was, a collage I had made of Gracie… I feel like it was meant to be. We had been talking about getting another dog. The kids and I really, really wanted one again, hubby initially wasn’t so keen on the idea. He’s a practical man and had valid reasons for his feelings on the matter. A dog is a big commitment and a lot of work and we like to travel occasionally and we all go to school and work all day… But many other people with dogs do the same thing and it still works out ok.

Here she is, our Audrey… I think, I’ll save her story for another post, another day, otherwise this one will get wayyyyy too long.

Something really cool happened last Sunday — I got to meet one of my bloggy friends IRL. Beth Ann and her husband Chris, or Mr. Diamond, as she refers to him on her blog It’s Just LifeΒ were in Boca on a business trip and we had the chance to meet up for a yummy dinner. It was like we were old friends and had known each other for ever and ever. I swear, we could have sat for another couple of hours and not run out of things to talk about. I hope, that one day soon, I’ll get the chance to see her again. πŸ™‚

So this is what’s been going on around these parts for the last few weeks (in a nutshell). I hope you are all well and are off to a good start this year! I’m looking forward to what this year has in store for us… so many good things on the horizon already… a girls trip to New Orleans in February, using our Disney annual passes that Santa brought, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers with Joe Walsh, Alton Brown, U2 and so much more. I can’t wait!!!

xoxo, Susi

Audrey certainly seems to fit right in and we are all enjoying having her in the house. It amazes me how much joy she brings to us all. Truly meant to be. πŸ™‚

That cake is fantastic!! I would never attempt something like that either. there are people who are perfectly willing to be paid to create such things – ha. sound like you had wonderful holidays, even though it was sooo busy. i took a break from blogging so I could enjoy the holidays. it’s not the writing of a post that i find hard to do, but the return visits to everyone who comments. if I don’t have time to hop around other blogs, I don’t normally post. seems fair. πŸ™‚
beth Ann!!!!! She’s so fabulous. I love her blog…. and all her teapots! she’s always so loving and had great wisdom. always a pleasure visiting her and I can only imagine she’s just as wonderful in real life. Mr diamond’s “chrisms” are one of my favourite things on her blog. LOL

That’s one of. Y biggest issues too – reading and commenting. I do pretty well with real my trusted few but rarely have time to branch out and read as much as I did before I starting working. Something always has to give…

A Star Trek part for Corey – awesome! And how wonderful it must have been to meet a longtime bloggy friend in real life… You are going to New Orleans and you are going to see Tom Petty? Now I’m envious! In a good way, of course. I am sure I’ll be seeing pictures πŸ™‚

Yup that is a cake that I would never attempt but it is wicked cool though!
Audrey is an absolute treasure. i know that she will bring you all so much joy and love. Our Champ sure does. Even though he farts and has stinky old man breath and eats all our socks and underwear….sigh…he’s so lovable though πŸ™‚
Meeting bloggy friends is the best thing ever! I’m so glad that you got to meet yours! How awesome!

Lol. I call her Audrey, the destroyer. She’s already gone through a bunch of stuffed animals… loves chewing them up and leaving the insides all over the house. But as long as she leaves our shoes and such alone, I’ll buy her all the chewy toys she likes. πŸ™‚ It’s been fun having a dog in the house again.
It was pretty awesome to meet BethAnn… I want to be her when I grow up. πŸ™‚
