I’m Susi, the BocaFrau.
Well, Boca because I live in Boca Raton, Florida and Frau is a German word meaning this →
Frau (noun, plural Frau·en [frou-uhn] Show IPA . English , Fraus [frouz] Show IPA . German.)
1. a married woman; a wife.
2. the conventional German title of respect and term of address for a married woman,
Corresponding to Mrs.
That’s the definition, as found in any German – English dictionary.
It’s also a little play on the word Hausfrau which is the German word for housewife. When we were first playing around with blog names, I was thinking along the lines of “Real Hausfrau of South Florida/Boca” but that seemed so long and I felt it may be misleading because I’m really nothing like any of the “Real Housewives of so and so…” 🙂
Things have changed a bit since I first started this blog 5 years ago. Then, I was a stay-at-home mom with 2 school age kids and a little one at home. Now, I work full-time as a science lab coordinator at my kids school. All three are school age kids now. There’s my son, who’s 16, my middle daughter who is 13 and our “baby” – don’t call her that to her face – who is 8.
I also recently went back to college. I was lucky enough to find a fully online degree which is the only way I’ll be able to finish my degree since I can pick and chose my time to work on school.
The blog has taken a back seat to life but I’m not ready to call it quits. I still like to have this space to utilize when I feel like sharing things: photos, anecdotes, the occasional recipe.
Here’s a little more about me:
I much prefer baking to cooking. Good thing that the hubby loves to spend time behind the stove!!! 🙂 I love to share my recipes and hope you’ll enjoy some of my simple and quick creations.
Three years ago I went back to work full-time after being a stay-at-home mom for 12 years. At work, I run a high school science lab during the school year and help run our science adventure camp during summer.
I love photography and you’ll find that most of my posts will have at least one picture, most of them taken with my phone (currently an iPhone 6 -which I love) and others taken with my “baby”, my Nikon D3200.
I’m also an avid fan of all things social media and can often be found on…
I was born and raised in Germany, came to the USA with my family at the age of 16 and finally became an American citizen on Jan. 11, 2012 (which also happens to be hubby’s birthday)!!!
My family and I call (mostly) sunny South Florida home.
If you’d like to get to know me better, keep reading, connect with me on any of the social media channels or simply shoot me a line at
email@example.com – I’d love to get to know you!!!
Thanks so much for stopping by.
I hope, you’ll stay awhile!!!
P.S. I also like “customizing” and learning about all things blog design related, so don’t be surprised if from time to time the look of my blog changes. I used to move around furniture to change things up around the house, now I do it here… 🙂
