190/365 – 193/365 Beauty all around me

From the top, clockwise…

Is it any wonder I love where I work when I see this view daily as I pull into our school. Thursday, we took the kids on a little “pond safari” and since we have a little resident gator right now, we could only stay outside, along the fence instead of going in like we did last year. We got lucky though and the gator popped his head out of the water to say hello. :)

Little One and I have been taking our Gracie for walks at night, something I’ve been sorely slack about but really enjoy. L.O. decided she wanted a photo of herself with Gracie. I was happy to oblige.

Saturday, we were invited to Ramadan dinner/break the fast at our friends’ house and the last time we were there, the husband had mentioned how much he liked Apfelstrudel (apple strudel). So I decided to surprise him. Everyone loved it. It also made me realize that I have yet to share a strudel recipe on this blog. So keep your eyes out, it’s in the works.

I got a lot of chores done today… cleaning out L. O. closet was one, and oh my, does this girl have a lot of clothes. I have bags of it to give away. Some will go to a friend and whatever she doesn’t want another friend is taking with her to Mexico when she goes on her missions trip with her church. The clothes will go to kids in an orphanage. It makes me happy knowing that it’s going there and hopefully, making a child smile. I also have a huge bag of stuffed animals – any suggestions on where to donate would be greatly appreciated. I also did some more laundry, cleaned the inside of my car (The seats needed a good leather cleaning. Who decided a tan interior would be fabulous in a car?!?! I hate it.), and supervised middle daughter spray-painting out mailbox (Our HOA told us to!). To finish of the evening, M. D. and I took Gracie for a walk under the soft evening sky… surrounded by no-seeums, annoying little buggers, especially when you are sweaty from dealing with manual labor. :) All in all a good day.

Now, on to another week. Tomorrow, I will take L.O. to the doctor to see what this cough she has is all about. It’s been lingering for a few weeks – no fever, not complaining of a sore throat or other aches and pains, eating and sleeping normal – just an annoying, inceasingly wet sounding cough.

I hope, you all had a wonderful weekend with lots of fun and relaxation.

Alles Liebe, Susi

Lately… around here

Guys, I don’t know where to start. I feel like I’ve been gone forever. I don’t think I’ve ever gone this long without posting anything at all, not even a picture.

It’s been about 2 weeks since I last posted. A busy time all around. My mom’s birthday has come and gone, my cousin and her boyfriend went back home to Germany – we had a lovely but way too short visit, we celebrated middle’s 11th birthday – and spent a record 5 or so hours at the mall the day before doing some serious birthday shopping, and Father’s Day happened to fall on the same day as her birthday – just like 11 years ago when she was born, school ended and camp has started with a bang.

The birthday girl.

Summer camp!!! I’ve looked forward to it all year and now it’s already into week 3. Camp has been busy and fun and exhausting. I come home most days, too tired to do much of anything. By the time I’m done with the usual chores and tucking everyone into bed at night, I’m usually just about ready to keel over into my fluffy feather pillows and nod off to dream land.

Fridays are dress up days. First up, mix and match/backwards day!

Next up, Hawaiian/Tourist day. Love my hula girls.

This year, I’m the assistant director/camp counselor for a brand new camp experience – Science Adventure Camp – and we’ve had so much fun with our campers…

Our first field trip took us to the beach and had us surf the waves, or at least try too. :)

We also headed to this amazing place north of here called Blowing Rocks Preserve – I haven’t seen a beach or part of the ocean this empty and beautiful since I moved to Florida, it was simply stunning, and I cannot wait to go back, hopefully at a time when the tide is high and the wind is right to see some wave action against the rocks. But even without that it was fun to explore the rocks and “cave” formations.

We’ve also added to our small pet “zoo” when middle received two guinea pigs from her friend as a birthday present (with my approval). Sherlock and Watson have been getting a lot of love and attention from everyone and have been welcomed into the family with open arms. They are so much fun and I love all the little noises they make – too cute.

An emergency also has us pet sitting our friend’s dog until Tuesday or Wednesday. Valentino is almost 14 years old, he’s deaf and blind and let’s just say, it’s been interesting having him around. But he’s a good boy!

And then, there’s the FIFA World Cup that started on June 16th and has kept me captivated and enthralled since day 1. It’s been an interesting and surprising ride so far and I can hardly wait to see how it will continue to unfold. My stomach has been in knots more than once and my poor family has to deal with “crazy mommy” again. Luckily, it only happens every four years. :) Soccer, or Fussball, as we call it in Germany, is more or less the only sport I like to watch and I’m hopeful that David Beckham will come through with a MLS team for Miami. I might actually turn into an actual team fan then!

Oh, yeah, I also chopped my hair off just in time for summer. It’s the perfect cut for me – simple and easy! And so me. :)

So, this is what we’ve been up to in a nutshell. Summer is continuing to be a busy, fun-filled time for all of us and my posting may continue to be very sporadic, as is my blog reading – I apologize if I haven’t made it by recently, I will try to stop by and say hello to all of you my friends. Soon, very soon.

I hope, everyone’s summer is off to a great start and you are having fun, fun, fun. I miss you guys and hope to catch up on some blog reading soon.

xoxo, Susi
